Attendance FAQ:

Hi Families and Students!

Reminder - attendance counts! Research shows that students who maintain a 95% attendance rate or higher have the most success in high school and college!

1. What is considered a good attendance rate?

Students should be at 95% or higher with their overall attendance rate in order to be considered for competitive high schools. Once a student has had 10 absences, they are no longer eligible to apply for many high schools, depending on their admission criteria. This is especially important for 7th graders, since high schools review 7th grade data before making admissions decisions.

2. Why is my child still being marked absent if they had an appointment with documentation?

Unfortunately as per Department of Education policy, even excused absences still count as absences. Given this, we strongly recommend:

- scheduling medical appoints outside of school hours and/or

- sending your child to school for a half day either before or after the appointment so they can still be counted present.

4. How can I know how many days my student has been marked absent?

Each day your student is marked absent or late, you should receive a text message. Please let us know if you are not receiving these messages as that likely means we have an incorrect phone number for you!

You will receive a report each month that goes over your student's attendance for the year. Please always let us know if you feel there has been an error, and we will work to correct it!

Thanks!!
